Supplies and tips for beginners

When I first wanted to get into drawing I had a small budget to work with, so I shopped around and done some research.

Lets talk about smudge stick aslo know as tortillons. When you are wanting to do drawings that require smudging refer to picture below.
I used the finger technique with this drawing.

Some easy tips for shading/smudging for when you are on a budget.  You can always use a Q tip or cottonball for smudging. You can also purchase stumps and tortillons by Art Alternative. They can be purchase on Amazon for 6.10.

Tortillons are very useful when adding detail to your drawing, they also last quite awhile with properly taking care of.  The best way to take care of your tortillons are to use sandpaper to get the graphite off the stick.  Personally I like to leave it on because it easier to smudge with.

I hope these tips and tricks help. Please follow my page to receive up todate content.

Hey everyone visit me on twitter let's chat about art. @Angels_Art1

My journey starting off

I started drawing and painting a few years ago. I'm telling you I couldn't draw two stick figures together (don't judge me lol). Early on my mom taught  me how to crochet. From there I taught  myself latch hook and cross stitch. I've always been a crafty person, I've learn it's a great stress relief.

So back to the subject of how I got started.  Its not a elaborate story. I really just woke up one day back in 2012 and decided I would like to teach myself how to draw. I first started with learning the use of shading pencils and different techniques. I referred to a few books, (which I will have a list for you in few days) also youtube is a great way to start.

When it comes to being a artist anything goes, there are many types of form of a artist. Before I started I thought about what am I good at and what do I enjoy doing. From there it took off. I knew that i love nature and I play close attention to details.  With that being said I started with trees, I found most of my drawings and painting have trees. That's the key, it's to find your niche. I realized that I have a love for nature. Keep these things in mind if your thinking about being a artist.

I hope you enjoyed this article and I hope it help with starting your process as a artist. A quote I would like to leave you with is "Do what you love and love what you do".
